Do you enjoy sorting, packing, and stocking? We need volunteers to join our dedicated crew that keeps our Care Van full of the necessities that are distributed to the unhoused. Multiple different low impact tasks in an air conditioned room! 2 hours only! This job is vital to our success, we empty our outreach van 3 times a week. Please plan on at least 2 shifts a month, the training involved does not lend itself to drop ins.

Maui Rescue Mission is a mobile resource center for those in our community who are struggling with homelessness. We provide free laundry service, private hot showers, hygiene and first aid items, clothing, connections to other resources such as food, shelter, medical insurance and medical appointments, detox and rehab, ID replacement, etc.

Our response to the great challenges here on Maui is ongoing, and we need your help. We continue to need assistance sorting fresh produce as well as packing canned goods for our distributions. We also have projects around Feed My Sheep that need volunteer power, like preparing newsletters, recycling, and care for our warehouse.

You can help us with all these projects and prepare Feed My Sheep for a new year.

Things to know:

The Produce Packing Patrol is a team of community volunteers who ultimately help bring fresh, locally grown food from Maui's farms to families across the island. Whether you're packing groceries, processing produce, greeting our partners, or lending a hand at community events, you're helping strengthen Maui's local food system!

When you volunteer with Maui Hub, you will be working on your feet. Be sure to wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and a full water bottle. You may be working in and out of our walk-in produce coolers, so pack a jacket. If you need reading glasses, don't forget those. We are so excited to hang out with you!

PWF and the Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DLNR-DOFAW) are partnering to support ridge to reef restoration efforts on Maui. DOFAWʻs mission is to protect, manage, and restore natural and cultural resources in collaboration with the people of Hawaiʻi. They envision a future with thriving native ecosystems and opportunities for the people of Hawaiʻi to engage with nature.

Volunteer efforts on state owned properties, which span the area from Māʻalaea to Olowalu, include land restoration which will reduce recurrent wildfire risks, enhance public access to hiking trails, protect cultural and scenic resources, and reduce stormwater runoff and erosion.

Participants will engage with various stages of restoration include removing invasive weeds and brush, cleaning up trash, out planting native species and more.

Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is known for its native Hawaiian Stilt and Coot nesting habitat. But there are areas of the refuge unseen by the public eye that are being restored to a Hawaiian dryland forest ecosystem, one of the most rare systems in the world. Our objective is to plant native species that were once found in this area and to replace the invasive, Kiawe forests. The area was burned in 2019 by a brush fire that tore across the valley towards Kihei, narrowly missing our visitor center. The fire was a blessing in disguise as it gave us the opportunity to remove the Kiawe, replant native species, and reintroduce an almost extinct ecosystem. Come join us in this unique opportunity! 

Important Gear:

The area is slightly rugged as we are required to walk over mulched Kiawe. Work is all outdoors in the heat.

Keālia Pond is a wetland sanctuary, home for many native and endemic species like the endangered ae‘o (Hawaiian stilt) and ‘alae ke‘oke‘o (Hawaiian coot), providing nesting, feeding and resting habitat. Participants will be contributing to habitat restoration work, protecting and enhancing the refuge’s native plant community. Volunteers will usually work alongside refuge staff to outplant and care for native plant species and remove invasive plants.

Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is dedicated to the protection of Maui Nui's native plants and cultural heritage. They collect, cultivate and distribute native and Polynesian-introduced plants, creating a space to understand the important relationship these plants have to our economic, social and cultural livelihoods. Participants will meet in their garden to help it thrive through weeding and propagation.

Minimum age: 8

Join us on the first Saturday of each month from 9-12 for our monthly Community Work Days in Kula. We’ll spend the morning supporting a Kula community member affected by the Maui fires, with hands-on work that helps the land and the people who care for it recover.

Activities may include removing invasive plants that have emerged since the fires and/or spreading wood chips in burn zones to support soil health and erosion control. This is a meaningful way to start your weekend by connecting with neighbors, caring for the land, and contributing to ongoing recovery efforts in our community.  No experience needed, just a willingness to help and a positive attitude!

Are you a high schooler who would like to earn community service hours while making a difference in a child’s life? Do you enjoy talking story and playing games? If so, then you could be on your way to becoming a Mentor!

Mentors from Baldwin High, Maui High, Lahainaluna, and Kihei Charter are needed for our After-school Mentoring Programs! We are seeking high school students to mentor our elementary students for the 2025-2026 school year.  A mentor's role is to build a positive friendship with their youth just by having fun!  No previous experience necessary.  

Mentors meet with their Youth for 1 hour, once a week after school.  This program is scheduled for Mondays from 3:00- 4:00 PM at our Mentor Center in Wailuku (200 Waimuluhia Lane, Wailuku), Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30 PM at Princess Nahi'ena'ena (Lahaina), and Mondays from 3:00- 4:00 PM at Kaiaulu O Halele'a (Kihei).  

Future Mentors need to fill out an application, complete an in-person interview, and provide references.  Group training will be available.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui's Community-Based Program matches a Mentor (adult) with a Youth (aged 6-16) based on geographic location, common interests, and likelihood of developing a friendship.

Our Mentors always tell us that they feel they get more out of volunteering than they contribute. Some benefits of being a mentor include gaining a personal wing person who provides professional support to help you along your mentoring journey, complimentary passes to do things around Maui with your youth, and the ability to build a life-long friendship. Many Maui youth, especially boys, yearn to connect and wait for a role model. 

Today's youth face various challenges, and being matched with a Mentor can help them navigate these challenges and reach their full potential.  Most youth in our program come from single-parent homes and can benefit from having a good role model in their lives. Mentors allow youth to express themselves and enjoy being a kid.

Mentor/Volunteer Commitment:

·         At least a one-year relationship with the youth.

·         Meet 2-3 times per month with the youth. This can be anything from teaching a new skill, doing arts & crafts together, or just talking stories and going on a walk.  You get to determine the date and time and coordinate this with the parent/guardian.

Leilani Farm Sanctuary is a beautiful 8-acre refuge for goats, donkeys, ducks, deer, pigs, chickens, rabbits, geese, tortoises, guinea pigs, cats and a cow.

Projects may include gardening, animal grooming, handyperson jobs, manure collection, window washing, cleaning rabbit pen, chain sawing, painting, carpentry, concrete work, trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, fence repair, and more.

OVERVIEW: 

The Fair Housing Enforcement Program at the Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i is seeking volunteers to assist our organization in creating a community where all people have an equal right to obtain and enjoy housing without facing illegal discrimination.  

VOLUNTEER'S ROLE: 

While blatant acts of housing discrimination do occur, discrimination is, more often, subtle and hard of detect. Unfortunately, even the most subtle acts of discrimination result in the same wide-scale unfairness and segregation of communities. The most effective tool used to detect housing discrimination is Testing, a process where volunteers (known as Testers) pose as home-seekers in a variety of housing situations and record their experiences.  

Testers have the opportunity to positively impact our local community by helping to investigate fair housing practices. Hours are very flexible, and due to the COVID-19 crisis all volunteer work is currently being done remotely.

GROUNDSKEEPER and/or HANDYPERSON

We need help clearing and maintaining the land, pruning and fertilizing the trees, tending an organic vegetable garden, caring for the monkeys' jungle enclosures, and maintaining the facility. Needed-experience in agriculture and horticulture, operating and maintaining equipment, making repairs and improvements at the facility.

The Foster Grandparent Program is looking for civic minded seniors age 55 years and older to share their knowledge with school age children.  Children need support in all aspects of their lives and especially in the school setting.  As a volunteer you will be working one on one with children helping them with reading, projects and communication.  Children relate well to their "tutu" because of the unconditional love that they receive.  Getting involved allows you to play a vital role in a child's life, meet new people and be part of a program that is making an impact through inter- generational relationship building.

Community members reach out to us when they want to organize a cleanup, in which we provide supplies. Instead of using traditional trash bags, we partner with a local brewery who donates their left over canvas bags so they have a second life rather than going straight to the landfill. We pick the bags up bi-monthly and need assistance at our office to bundle them together to give out for cleanups. This can be done any time within our work hours (Tuesday-Saturday 8am-3pm).

One of our solid waste programs, called Paint Exchange, is a program where community members bring latex paint that's still usable however they don't have a need for it anymore. Others will come to Malama Maui Nui when they need paint, in which they can go into our paint cage and collected however much paint they need/want. Over time, the paint will become unusable and will need to be processed for solidification. This program supports landfill diversion and chemicals leaching into the ground. The second Saturday of every month is dedicated to support programs like this one.

Mālama Maui Nui is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, and as such, we spearhead the Great American Cleanup campaign in Maui County. The campaign is the nation’s largest community improvement program, taking place in 20,000 communities and engaging more than 5 million volunteers! This campaign is centered around Earth Day and Mālama Maui Nui encourages groups all over Maui County to get involved by hosting community and beach cleanups during the campaign dates of April 1-30th.

Help with meals for our Hale!

Every day volunteers and staff pick up prepared meals from Hale Makua in Kahului for our patients in our hale. We are always looking for more volunteers to help out with this so our dedicated nurses and aides can stay at the hale. You need a working vehicle and to be able to carry up to 5 "to go" style boxes to and from your car.  It's a short 2 mile drive each way. Confidentiality is required.

Our October 2025 training is now full, thank you! Dates for our next training will be posted in early 2026.

People often ask about being a Hospice Maui Volunteer visiting patients in their homes, at our Hospice Hale and at Hale Makua, Roselani Place, Kula Hospital, Kalama Heights and in private foster care.  Our Patient Visit Volunteers provide compassionate companionship to patients, and often are able to give family members a much needed break.  Volunteers may sit with patients to talk story, listen to music, watch TV, or just be present for the patient while the family is on an errand. Some Volunteers also play music, offer light massage or Reiki, help with household errands, do Food Bank Shops, and many other things that would support the patient and family. 

Caring for our patients is a sacred trust and, simply due to nature of being with people at the end of life, difficult situation or emotions may come up when helping out in this beautiful way.  Hospice Maui offers an extensive Compassionate Care of the Dying Volunteer Training each year to prepare volunteers for the joys and challenges of being a Hospice Maui Volunteer. If this is your interest, please let us know and we will contact you about the training and get you signed up for our waiting list.

Hāli‘imaile Community Garden is looking for a volunteer employee to help with grounds keeping and maintenance around our facility on a weekly basis. The Groundskeeper will work to ensure that Hāli‘imaile Community Garden property is maintained in a presentable and professional manner. The quality of work produced by the groundskeeper will improve the welcoming environment we strive to create for garden members, partner  organizations, volunteers, event participants, and staff. This position will provide valued support to the organization.

Malama Maui Nui receives grain bags donated from Maui Brewing Company that are then bundled and distributed to local cleanup coordinators to aid in their beach and neighborhood cleanup efforts. Volunteer support is always needed to help us bundle bags for distribution. Work is very important to our cleanups and is performed here at our baseyard, during our office hours from 8am to 3pm, Tuesday through Friday. Join us in peaceful Pu'unene.
